The course trains students on the application of the various methods, service delivery models, lesson development, instructional strategies like differentiation, differentiated instruction (DI), and universal design for learning (UDL), classroom organization, school to work transition planning, career development and counseling, and teaching learners with intellectual disabilities. At the end of the course, the students should be able to demonstrate the skills of modifying, augmenting and altering the educational program and accessing the regular curriculum, integrating current technologies in the development of an Inclusive Education Plan (IEP) and Individualized Transition Plan.

The course focuses on the fundamental concepts and theories in Gifted Education. It aims for the development of a clear understanding of
the gifted learners in terms of the cognitive, academic, social and emotional aspects of their being, and a strong grounding on the different
areas of giftedness and the various categories and types of gifted learners. It explores the different approaches and models in identifying
and nurturing learner’s creativity, and the existing upperventions to address the educational concerns of gifted learners. At the end of the course, the students are challenged to evaluate the existing programs of the gifted in the country and to develop a program that advocates the development of the Filipino gifted and talented learners.

The course explores research trends and needs and implications to teaching and intervention practices on special needs and inclusive education. It exposes the students to the analysis and integration of theories and practices learned, and opens their minds to the need for the production of empirical data to address existing gaps in the field of special and inclusive education. At the end of the course, the students prepare a compendium of researches conducted as references for research mapping, with documented observations and analysis, and present a scholarly-written research proposal on relevant concerns related to the discipline using appropriate research
methods.
