THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD - OBTEC 1-I-20 TGED07 (M/TH 03:00PM-05:00PM/03:00PM-05:00PM)

This course explores the interrelationship of globalization, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and sustainability issues, focusing on their impact in the Philippine context. Students will examine economic, political, technological, environmental, and socio-cultural dimensions of globalization, assess SDG progress, and analyze sustainability challenges. Methodology includes lectures, interactive discussions, group projects, and utilization of multimedia resources. Further, students will also learn to use data science and mapping tools to better understand and visualize the complexities of globalization, evaluate SDG initiatives, and analyze sustainability data. By the end of the course, students will critically assess globalization's impact, propose actionable sustainability solutions, and foster informed global citizenship rooted in the Philippine context.

These agents focus on addressing root causes rather than symptoms, challenging and altering policies, power dynamics, and cultural beliefs to achieve equitable and lasting change

Students actively engage with digital learning environments and critically evaluate information across various platforms. They demonstrate proficiency in using digital tools and technologies for learning and problem-solving.

Students actively participate in cross-cultural exchanges and advocate for inclusive, equitable, and sustainable practices. They appreciate cultural diversity and engage in actions that promote global understanding and sustainability.
