This course covers the historical, theoretical, ethical and
philosophical underpinnings of library and information science as a field of
study. It provides an overview of the different types of libraries and
information centers, and discusses the legal basis of the profession
with emphasis on the Philippine context including laws, issues, and the code of
ethics for librarians. At the end of this course the students can exemplify
understanding and appreciate librarianship as a profession.
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION RESOURCES - BLISCI 1-I-BLISCI TP-S-LIS02 (S 12:00PM-03:00PM)
This course introduces the different concepts and activities involved
in managing and developing the collections for libraries and information
centers. It gives focus on the processes of needs assessment, selection,
acquisition, deselection, and inventory of different resources. Students are
expected to demonstrate and apply the principles of collection building by
evaluating client needs and collection profiling.
