STATE AND THE MARKET IN THE AGE OF GLOBALIZATION - MASSED 5-1 SSE-702(S 07:00AM-10:00AM)

This course examines the interplay between state and market in the context of globalization, with emphasis on the Philippine experience. It explores the impact of globalization on economies, societies, and cultures; reviews the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and their outcomes in the Philippines; and analyzes the transition to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a broader framework for inclusive and sustainable growth. The course also studies capitalism and alternative markets, highlighting their influence on inequality, labor, and governance; evaluates the role of international economic organizations such as the WTO, APEC, NAFTA, AFTA, and ASEAN in shaping Philippine trade and integration; and assesses national planning through NEDA and AmBisyon Natin 2040 as the country’s long-term vision. Through critical analysis, students will understand how global and local forces intersect to shape policies, development strategies, and the future of the Philippine economy.
