Emphasizes the psychogenesis of emergent literacy, literacy teaching and learning in the early grades, both in L1 and L2, particularly on reading, writing, and oral language, with attention given to observation and assessment, appropriate selection and use of books and materials, organization and management, and way of teaching that support children in building strong processing systems in reading and writing. At the end of the course, students are expected to propose a model on effective literacy instruction for the young.
