This course prepares future Social Studies teachers to understand Earth’s dynamic systems and their impact on historical events through a spatio-temporal lens. Students will examine the reciprocal influence between the environment and human activities, emphasizing geographical features and landforms that have shaped civilizations. The course incorporates Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and fieldwork to analyze environmental issues and historical contexts. Students will develop skills to analyze, utilize, and visualize geographic data, understand environmental changes affecting societies and cultures, and contribute to discussions on environmental stewardship and historical developments, especially in Asia. Students will apply GIS skills to a community/school issue.

This course involves a critical examination of the narratives of the Filipino Nation from multiple perspectives and disciplines and in different periods and genres using selected primary and secondary sources. Students must employ historical reading and thinking skills in evaluating sources, develop sound arguments for or against a particular issue effectively communicated in their platforms of preference, and manifest interest in promoting local history, national patrimony, and cultural heritage. At the end of the course, students will propose a project by tracing or identifying historical patterns in Philippine society.

First Year
This course explores the interrelationship of globalization, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and sustainability issues, focusing on their impact in the Philippine context. Students will examine the economic, political, technological, environmental, and socio-cultural dimensions of globalization, assess progress on the SDGs, and analyze sustainability challenges. Methodology includes lectures, interactive discussions, group projects, and the utilization of multimedia resources. Further, students will also learn to use data science and mapping tools to better understand and visualize the complexities of globalization, evaluate SDG initiatives, and analyze sustainability data. By the end of the course, students will critically assess the impact of globalization, propose actionable sustainability solutions, and foster informed global citizenship rooted in the Philippine context
