PHYSICS FOR TEACHERS - MASEIS 5-1 SCIED PHY 715( )
MASEIS
This course provides a comprehensive overview of motion, forces, electricity, and magnetism, utilizing Science Capital as its foundational teaching and learning framework. It emphasizes the mathematical explanation of physical phenomena while explicitly integrating all eight dimensions of science capital—from scientific literacy and everyday relevance to the consumption of science media. The course highlights the transferability of physics knowledge to diverse career paths and encourages students to engage in scientific talk with their families and communities. Formative and summative assessments are employed as reflective tools to monitor the development of a student’s science identity. Students will be assessed through authentic performance tasks, such as designing physics-based solutions for community issues, demonstrating their ability to apply knowledge in real-world, out-of-school contexts while reinforcing the belief that science is "for them".
